WNBA playoffs 2026: Matchups, bracket, full schedule and how to watch

September 26, 2026 2 min read

The stage is officially set for the 2026 WNBA playoffs, bringing an end to a tense regular season that saw the final four seeds decided in the closing seconds of Thursday night’s action. Fans can expect a high stakes month of basketball starting this Sunday, September 27, with the championship journey stretching all the way to October 31 should the finals require a deciding game. The anticipation is building as teams transition from the grind of the regular season into a postseason format designed to test endurance and skill across multiple rounds.

This year marks only the second time the league will employ its expanded seven game Finals schedule, following a debut last year where the Las Vegas Aces made quick work of the Phoenix Mercury in a four game sweep. To ensure fairness and home court advantage, the championship series follows a two two one one one structure. This means the higher seed earns the right to host games one, two, five, and seven, while the lower seed will welcome fans at home for games three, four, and six.

While the Finals offer a marathon stretch, earlier rounds provide more immediate pressure. The opening round consists of best of three series meant to weed out those who cannot handle early postseason nerves, followed by semifinals that shift to a best of five format. With every matchup now locked in after a chaotic finish to the regular season, viewers can prepare for a playoff run defined by tight windows of opportunity and elite competition across the board.
