Coaching Blunder Costs Eagles Heartbreaking Loss in London

October 12, 2026 2 min read

The Philadelphia Eagles leave London with a sour taste in their mouths and a precarious 2-3 record after blowing another late lead against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Despite a gritty performance from a depleted roster, the game ended in disaster due to a questionable tactical decision by head coach Nick Sirianni. After Jake Elliott hit a field goal to give Philly the lead with only eight seconds remaining, Sirianni opted for a returnable kickoff rather than booting the ball through the end zone. The gamble failed spectacularly when Ameer Abdullah returned the kick 53 yards, setting up a game winning field goal for the Jaguars.

Sirianni wasted no time taking full responsibility for the collapse, admitting after the game that he made the wrong call and personally cost his players a victory. The loss is particularly stinging given how much the team struggled just to stay competitive throughout the afternoon. The Eagles entered the contest with an offensive line consisting almost entirely of inexperienced backups following injuries and departures, leaving veteran Jordan Mailata as essentially the lone pillar of stability during what he described as a week from hell.

While the coaching staff faced scrutiny for conservative second half play calling that resulted in an abysmal 22 rushing yards over 18 attempts, other parts of the team shone brightly. The defense stood tall with multiple goal line stands, aided significantly by an electric atmosphere provided by traveling Philadelphia fans who used crowd noise to force several Jaguars penalties. Individual highlights included Jalen Carter dominating without his wrist cast and wide receiver Parker Washington delivering a stellar performance with two touchdowns. Even quarterback Jalen Hurts managed to keep things moving despite lacking his primary weapons, but individual brilliance wasn’t enough to overcome systemic failures at the finish line.
